" How We Got Here
Beginning in 1990 when the non-conforming lending industry was in its infancy, the company was forged with the ethics, professional practices and service standards more akin to relationship banking than non-conforming lending. Today, EquiFirst is a national lender headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., providing wholesale non-conforming loans. We are the standard-bearer for personalized, in-person service recognized within the industry. Lied about their efforts to obtain a Harp loan. Dishonest buttholes.

I refinanced my mortgage with Equifirst to get some equity to finish-out the garage. Without my knowledge, they included a balloon arm to the mortgage, which is just a fancy way of saying that you pay the interest only for 15 years on a 15 year mortgage (pay rent). The balance of the mortgage becomes due after 15 years or they take your house. They turn the mortgage over to Select Portfolio who tried to foreclose on me twice for past due property taxes and mortgage insurance that they left out of the mortgage payments. I had to file bankruptcy to prevent foreclosure. Lessons learned: Don't ever use Equifirst....read the fine print...always use a lawyer.

Equifirst engaged HomEq as our servicer. They used high pressure phone tactics to badger and humiliate us and would not work with us to modify our mortgage during this economic downturn.

They turned my mortgage over to a company called select portfolios, a collection agency. First they lowered my payments, then they tried to foreclose. They gave me a 3 month extension at the lowered payment, after that i have to pay almost $10000.00 or they are going to foreclose on me. I read up on this company and am shocked the government will let them continue in this business after having to pay back millions of dollars for this scam using another name.
