Loan Modification with Suntrust

August 13, 2009

Have been trying to my loan modified with Suntrust since March of 2009. They would not do anything for me in March, so I enlisted the help of a local state of Ohio agency. The process has been slow and I have received my first letter indicating that they have retained an attorney and will foreclose if I do not pay the amount I am behind. I am getting extremely impatient as the process has taken a very long time. I am hopeful that we can do a loan modification and stay in our home. We have a steady income, but just need some help to get back on track. A lower payment, interest rate adjustment, etc., could help us accomplish that.

Haven't had very much luck at this point. Suntrust has contracted me out to 1st American that I continue to call(cust service is normally quick) atleast they answer the phone---Unlike Suntrust!!!! 9/8, faxed info, 9/9 called SunTrust to verify received info--told information was faxed to the wrong dept to resend---resent. 9/10 called and verified infor was received. 9/15 caleld suntrust told acct with 1st American was fowarded on 9/9, 9/15 called 1st american they don't have file told to wait. 9/16 called --no file!!-call Suntrust. Interim rec'd letter confirming SunTrust sent acct to 1st America, 9/17 called 1st american, No file see in system where SunTrust sent over--told to call them. 9/21 called Suntrust after being on hld for approx 25mins agent answered the phone and I was asked to hold again. Agent came back, advised that he file has been sent and the process is "pretty lengthy-call back in a couple of weeks as not timeframes are given" OOO well I guess I will continue to wait. I was placed in this position because I care for two foster kids and the state terminated their stipend "due to economic reason"---one would think that economic reasons would be the primary reason families would be supported during this time---WHERE ARE MY TAX DOLLARS GOING---I WOULD LOVE TO GET JUST A LITTLE BACK ON WHAT I HAVE PUT IN---Guess I will wait on that also!!!

My situation with SunTrust began in Sept. 2008 when my husband got laid off of work. At that time I contacted them and asked for any type of assistance that they could give me in paying my mortgage, but there response was “Nothing we can do for you unless you are 90+days behind.” There was nothing they could do. We were able to pay our bill on time until January of 2009, when we started to fall behind again. I made another call, same story. When Obama passed his plan this year, I immediately started the loan modification process. That began in April, after five months, countless phone calls and hours on the phone; I finally got my loan modification package in the mail in September. Hoping for a miracle, a major disappointment appeared before my eyes when I opened the package, the mortgage had only decreased $11.00. How could that be, considering we had such a dramatic decrease in our income. According to SunTrust, they only take our income into consideration, not our debt. But, they told us to send back the paperwork unsigned and they would look for another workout option. So, here we go again! As of today, we are 90+ days behind on our mortgage payment, as SunTrust once told us to do. When I called and asked help I am now told they can’t help me because I am 90+ days behind. When asked about their previous statement of “having to be” 90 days late to receive help, they said that things are different now. How convenient for them! We received our letter of default but are told they won’t proceed with the actual sale of our house because we are in the loan modification process, but I am sure that’s a lie too. I am very interested in talking with others about hearing what your situation might be. I am also looking for any advice that someone might want to give. I am going to fight this all the way through, to the point where SunTrust will WANT TO GIVE ME BACK MY HOME!!

November 2009. My lender is suntust its been almost a year trying to get a loan modification with them even with help from an attorney with no results except runarounds. I too were late paying my mortgage(s)& trying to cathup. I'm seriously convince suntrust does not want to modify your loan. Instead for you to foreclose so they can sell your house again for a quick downpayment betting the next homeowner to foreclose again and start the process over and over again. my suggestion is to file Bankruptcy 7/13. Let the law force them to help you. See Senator Darwin,s proposal about bankruptcy and lets all support his bill.
