I lost my husband and soon it will be my home also

March 10, 2009

My husband passed away 7/23/07 and I only had a part time job. I made the payment on time for over a year but it was a struggle. I called Countrywide to see if they could modify my loan. They told me they would send me an offer by mail in @ 30 days and to not send in the payment. After 30 days I called and they said that they were really busy and that it would be sent out. So I waited, called again and got the same response and so I waited. I never received any offer just a notice of foreclosure and they tell me my request was denied within a month of me asking for it. My family has moved in with me to pay the mortgage and we could make the monthly payment. They sent a notice yesterday(3/4/09) saying the loan is in foreclosure and I have until 3/9/09 to pay $15,665.50. There is no way I can come up with that in 5 days.I would have made the payment all along if I knew I was declined in Oct.08 but they never called or sent anything by mail until it was too late and every time I called they told me to just wait. Also, each time I called they would ask me what the hardship was and I would tell them that my husband had passed away and that I had told them that numerous times but they said they never had any record of that. I am willing to agree to almost any monthly payment as long as I can keep my home. My family lives with me and I feel that we bring in plenty of income to pay on time evey month and would have if Countrywide would have told me months ago that my request was denied months ago instead of "just hold on". I dont know where to turn or what to do and I would appreciate any help.

I live in columbia south carolina. this past weekend I attended a stop foreclosure tour by NACA and there were lots of homeowners present with countrywide mortgages. some in forclosure, some with auction dates, some behind on payments with no forclosure and some who were not behind on payments. These individuals were being help with loan restructures, auctions were stop in addition to foreclosures. the loan restructure rates differed from home owner to owner depending on ability to pay there were homeowners who had their rates dropped from 10% down to 2 and three percent for the life of the loan.It varied from person to person. check out NACA.com to see if there is a counselor in your area. we have submitted our paperwork for help and hopefully we can save our home. check out the websites and type NACA in your browser and read comments from others. let me know if this helps
