I used to make good money but am now on Disability
I am an RN who until November 2007 was making 75,000 a year and making my mortgage payments fine plus paid an additional 1000.00 on principle in 2008. However in November due to a chronic condition and having to stop working fulltime and ask for my disability to be reinstated which it has been and receive $1604/month plus I earn an additional $1000/month for a total income of $2604/mo. Once I turn 66 next February I can earn more so if I could just get my mortgage interest rate down from 6.66% and modify my loan to allow me to pay 900.00 a month I could keep my home. I contacted the Loss Mitigation department of Century 21 right away in November and am told I have a representative working on this, but after at least 20 faxes to her and multiple attempts to talk with her since November I have heard nothing from her, and received just today a letter after missing 2 payments that I am in default on my loan. There are at least 5 other properties in this subdivision that are either in foreclosure or in the process and owners trying to sell at a much reduced rate and still cannot sell. I paid 159,000 for my brand new home in October 2007 and the value now is about $130,000, as my neighbor who also paid 160,000 for her new home has been trying to sell it for 121,000 and cannot sell it and it will be auctioned off in April. This is just one example of several and yet I cannot seem to get my lender to contact me and work something out when I have means to pay and stay in my home with just some help reducing my mortgage. Now, I have been contacted by several who claim to be able to help, but I cannot afford to pay $2,900 for help first of all and certainly can't and won't pay someone with no refund policy if you fail to help me. I am 65 years old and completing my Masters degree next year, so I am not ignorant and while I want very much to keep my home and feel with right and just assistance I could, as next year could see me once again making substantially more than I can this year, but I am an informed consumer as I have to be as I cannot afford to lose money I do not have.
