Our Story of Foreclosure is becomeing more and more the norm.
In this day and time unfortunately my story is not unique. My family and I (husband and 2 children) are facing the foreclosure of our home on March 2, 2009 and have only 12 days to find a place to stay. Let me tell you a little about how we got here. About three years ago my husband lost a professional job paying in the high $40s which delivered a financial blow to our family. For months following he tried tirelessly to find employment that pay anywhere near what he was making but he found nothing. One thing that probably worked against him was he was considered a "dinosaur" meaning in the mid-40 age range. Finally, about five months later he landed a job as a meter reader paying a third of what he was previously making. I was working as a medical transcriptionist at the time and believe it or not, a real estate agent. We were making it but barely. In Novemeber 2007, we had to file bankruptcy because we were delinquent on all our bills and four months behind in our mortgage and facing impending foreclosure. By filing bankruptcy we were automatically granted a stay which allowed us to keep our home and resume mortgage payments. However in April 2008, I lost my job as a medical transcriptionist and the real estate market went bust. As a result we once again fell behind in our mortgage payments and in November 2008, the mortgage company went to court and got a relief of stay that allowed them to proceed with foreclosure once again. We actually received a notice of this the day after Thanksgiving. We've tried various organizations (i.e. Family Service Center, 1-888-995-HOPE and other 1-800 numbers) trying to get help but nothing. THERE IS NO HELP OUT THERE. We tried to work out a loan modification with our mortgage company but they said we did not have enough net income. We asked if they would reduce the interest rate which is currently 8.95% and extend the terms of the mortgage another five to ten years to make it more affordable and help us save our home but they denied our request. The process took from early December until the last day in January and we happened to find out by my calling the mortgage company. So, here it is, Feb. 17, 2009 and we have to find a place to call home by the end of the month. Our house will be sold to the highest bidder on the steps of the courthouse on March 2nd. Because of our current credit situation (bankruptcy and impending foreclosure) we are not able to apply to many places for rental property. My husband currently works three jobs and I am earnestly seeking employment but to no avail. WE NEED HELP! The government can bail out Washington executives, banks and the like but not hard working families like mine. The crisis facing families should not be. We dont' know where else to turn. Our story, unfortunately, is not unique but it's painful and stressful just the same.
