How can I get current?
October 20, 2009
I have been trying to work with Citi Mortgage, but they are being difficult. They are aware my husband was out of work, but now we make more money and are ready to become current on the loan. Instead of helping with a forbearance or loan modification, they sent a letter threatening to foreclose. They won't recognize we are trying to get current. How can I get current?

If Citi Mortgage is getting ready to forclose that means you haven't made payments for several months, so your credit has already suffered. If you really want to save your house you can file bankruptcy. Yes, that will affect your credit again and will stay on your record for 7-10 years but the foreclosure will too and as long as you are not current with your mortgage the bank will keep on reporting you as late (that too is affecting your credit). The bankruptcy will postpone the foreclosure and depending on the counsel of your attorney he/she can tell you what chapter to file to save your home. It is not a pretty route but it is a way to work around the foreclosure and keep your home.
