This was a mess from the closing
The difficult history of this account began on my closing day. Because I was recently divorced and buying the home with less that perfect credit (my ex and I had jointly bought a home several years earlier)I was given a subprime rate. When I spoke to my loan officer on closing day, I was told that I needed to bring $2500 additional dollars than first communicated to me and my real estate agent. This essentially cleaned out my checking/savings account, which was money I was counting on to help me make the monthly payments along with my regular income. I fell behind and Countrywide remodified my loan. I had to pay a $3500 lump sum payment and my new monthly went up to $1100. I was making the payments on time every month as I had gotten a better paying job. One month my payment wasn't processed. When I called Countrywide I was told it was because my payments weren't certified funds. For months I was sending personal checks and Countrywide was cashing them. For some reason they decided not to cash the last one and didn't contact me. I had to call to inquire about my account. Thus I violated the first modification agreement, was subsequently re modified, paid a $2500 lump sum and my new monthly became $1445. This winter was very stressful on my property. Between November and December I had furnace and thermostat work and I had to replace my water heater with a new unit. I fell behind again and am now looking for some relief. If it's at all possible, I'd like to get close to the original monthly payment, which I can easily make now and still maintain my other bills and provide for my children. Also is it possible that the loan be re-written extending the repayment time so I don't have to come up with yet another huge lump sum payment, which of course would put me back in the same situation? With a reasonable monthly payment, I can maintain the original $109,000 loan. I live on a single income (three jobs, one full time, two of them seasonal) and have a hefty child support payment, but I can make good my payments if I can just get them reworked to a reasonable level.
