Lost job, behind on payment, WAMU said they can't help... what now?
January 03, 2008
I lost my job in the beginning of November. I owe the December payment and January has a grace period until the 15th. I have fallen behind in the past, but was always able to catch up. However, WAMU has always said they do not offer forbearance. A repayment plan would only raise my payment. I don't think I can refinance if I am unemployed. What should I do?

WELLCOME TO THE NIGHTMARE AT WAMU! THAT LOAN MODIFICATION THEY TELLING YOU ABOUT IS A PK OF BULL. YOU CAN NEVER REACH ANYONE TO HELP YOU AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT ANS THEY LOOKING FOR. WHATEVER YOU TELL THEM WILL DISQUALIFY YOU...IT ALL A TRICK. IF U CAN SEE A LAWYER THAT WOULD BE THE BEST FOR YOU. pls let me know if u get anywhere with the loan modification. just remember, B 4 U CALL FIND OUT WHAT THEY NEED FIRST.
Yes, WAMU doesn't care about you and if you live out in the street! I applied for a modification of my mortgage and they denied me. I am on disability and I told them that I had a hardship. The government needs to do something about it in the stimulus package that congress is dragging their heels on, now. I am going to hire a lawyer as they also used one reason I was denied as I claimed bankruptcy over 11 years ago. The limit I believe is 10. This is from Consumers Union <action@consumer.org> I quote!!!
"Nearly every 13 seconds, another home goes into foreclosure. While billions of our taxpayer dollars have gone to bail out the giant financial institutions that helped get us into this mortgage mess, little has been done to help homeowners stay in their homes.
You can help change that right now. I just sent an email to Congress supporting measures to allow homeowners facing bankruptcy to restructure their mortgages, and to ensure the next round of TARP money really helps Americans avoid foreclosure. Would you take a moment to do the same by clicking the link below?
Home mortgages are the only debt that can't be modified in bankruptcy court forcing into foreclosure hundreds of thousands of struggling homeowners who want to keep their houses. Currently, the courts can modify all sorts of loans for owners of big corporations, commercial real estate, even those with vacation properties but they can't do the same for families on the verge of losing their only home.
The proposed bankruptcy legislation won't cost taxpayers a cent, and it won't excuse families from paying their mortgage. It simply gives bankruptcy judges the authority to modify loans when homeowners have exhausted other options to avoid foreclosure.
So far, the largely voluntary efforts to get banks to restructure mortgages aren't working, and our neighborhoods and home values are suffering due to foreclosures. Now, some of those financial institutions who got us into the mortgage mess are lobbying against this helpful change!
Send an email to Congress to pass this simple fix to help homeowners, and tell them to ensure the TARP bailout money includes a plan to help Americans avoid foreclosure.

Washington Mutual does nothing to help homeowners modify their loans. I am about 130K underwater with my condo in San Diego and my mortgage broker has sent paperwork into them 2 times and no one has any record of this paperwork. I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone in the company. They keep transferring me from person to person and not a soul knows anything about the modification or can give me any answers. I'm so tired of how they don't give you any answers and pretend like they never received any paperwork so they don't have to help you out. This is ludicrous!! I urge everyone out there who has had negative experiences with WaMu to write about it. They are a horrible lending company!
We were two month behind on our adjustable rate payment when I tried to get them to modify our loan and all they did was give me the run-around! I couldn’t believe it when the guy on the phone actually said that my family shouldn’t eat so much because then we would spend less on groceries and would have more money to make our mortgage payment! What a jerk! He also said we should get a cheaper car and a bunch of other stuff that was really rude. Come to find out the loan modification they were going to give us was a just Forbearance Agreement and all it was going to do was add the payments we were behind on to the back of my loan. Since our interest rate was going to stay the same, this would actually make my payment go up! THAT’S what got me into this mess in the first place! My payments are too high! This whole thing was keeping me up at night worrying about what was going to happen to us. I told my friend at work about this and she said I should call the loan modification company that got her loan modified down to 3.75% fixed interest rate! I decided to call them, and in about 45 days they got my interest rate down to 4.35% and it’s a fixed rate too! The company is First American Financial Group and we are really happy with what they did for us. The website is, w. w. w. TheLoanModFacts . com. We went with them because they have attorneys on staff to make sure the banks do the best they can and they have a 100% money back guarantee. I hope this helps some other people fighting with their loan company! Don’t give up and don’t be intimidated by your mortgage company!
