Chase escrowed my taxes because I did not pay them, can they do this?
I have been a Chase customer for 4 years, a never had a late payment. In Jan 07, my divorced finalized. I kept the house and was able to make my mortgage payment and second loan payment. In June 07, Chase forced escrow on my late property taxes, stating they made payment and instilled an escrow. My payment then went to 1295.00. Over the course of the 4 years, I was always late with my property taxes, paid the late penalties and paid the taxes and never put the home in jeopardy. Since the county requires 18 months to pay, I dragged it out and paid the taxes slowly with bonus income or with income tax returns. Now, Chase forced an escrow of which I cannot afford on a monthly basis. Since June of 07 I have been late every month, and stacking up late fees and am now approaching 90 days late. I filed for assistance due to the divorce and received no response since that was filed in Sept. 07. I cannot make the required 1295.00 a month, plus the second loan on a monthly basis. If I could just have Chase remove the escrow, and let me manage my taxes as before, I would be able to retain my home. My intention, is to pay the paid taxes that Chase made last year with my income tax return this year. Do I have any recourse?
