Is Foreclosure a Crisis or Opportunity?
We all have crises in our lives. Your crisis might seem small to me and mine might seem small to you. It’s funny how the only crisis that seems important to me is my crisis! Oh, the time that has been wasted worrying about things I couldn’t change... you can't get it back. Suffering is inevitable but misery is optional!
I’m not suggesting you praise the Lord for your foreclosure. Not once during your foreclosure should you think you are being blessed. But, you may have missed opportunities to praise the Lord for His provision so far and the miracles He has planned for you in the future.
God never, ever gives you anything you can’t bear. I Corinthians 10:13 encourages us, “..God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
And God allows things to happen to you so that you in turn can be an encouragement to others. What an awesome responsibility! “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves received from God.” (II Cor. 1:3-4).
So, is this your crisis or your opportunity? You can focus on yourself and become miserable or give your failings to Christ to make into something new and wonderful.
When your home is in foreclosure keep reminding yourself, “It’s just a house.” Keep telling yourself, “We have our health”. It will teach to keep my eyes off the temporal and on the eternal. It will teach you what “stuff” was important.
With the focus off yourself, you can concentrate on others. With your focus on a solution, you could change your crisis into an opportunity for Christ. Give it a try... He will be there for you.
