Flying In the "V" Formation
Yesterday the kids saw several flocks of geese flying north. They were amazed at their organization and the precision of their flock. Group after group passed us in just a short time and they were all flying in that familiar "V" formation.
The first question I heard was, "How do they know how to do that?". I like those kinds of questions. I blame everything on God! I explained how God gave these animals the knowledge to fly in this exact pattern because He loves them and knows what's best for them.
Well, that only led to question #2: "Why do they fly like that?". What a great time to remind myself just how detailed and precise God is.
I explained that the geese fly in that special shape for two reasons. First, it reduces "draft" on the remaining participants. The "point man" or lead goose endures the major force of all the wind drag so that his friends behind him have an easier flight. His effort is so powerful that they don't have to flap their wings near as fast as they would flying alone. These geese can now fly farther with less stress on their heart and muscles. Furthermore, the geese know the exact spacing to reduce the drag for maximum efficiency for every bird in the flock!
When the bird in the lead position tires, he falls back into the pack and someone else takes the lead. The two birds at the tail end also tire more easily and their positions are rotated out more frequently. As everyone must rotate, all birds, young and old, learn the benefits of teamwork and responsibility.
The second reason for the "V" formation is communication. In this formation they have the best situation for talking to one another, seeing one another and making sure no one gets lost during migration.
So, are you flying in the "V" formation?? Are you putting yourself in a position where you can communicate with your family, watch your children grow and make sure no one gets lost in the world? That's something we can do no matter what our financial situation is.
Perhaps you're facing foreclosure and you don't feel like you're even close to being on the team. Just because you're not flying "point" today doesn't mean you're not on the team. Don't feel bad if someone else has to carry your burden and decrease your "drag" for this short season of your life. Reach out for the necessary help.
And when this is through, you'll be right back at "point man" again helping someone behind you endure the next storm in their life. It's what we're here for.
