Watch out for those sites trying to take advantage of you and looking for a foreclosure lead.
Homeowners must be careful when seeking foreclosure advice online. The vast majority of websites offering to help stop foreclosure are really only looking for a lead they can sell to someone. They sell your lead typically to either a realtor/investor or a broker. Unfortunately neither one of those has your best interests at heart.
The realtor or investor is only trying to look for a good foreclosure deal they can buy. For the large majority of homeowners this is of no help. They only time this may help is if you're in a situation or you just need to dump the house and move on. They will only buy your property if there is some equity in the home. If there is no equity they are not to be interested in it.
The broker that will get your lead is looking to try refinance you to stop the foreclosure. This may in fact help some people in the short term but if you can qualify this will be very expensive. The majority of homeowners will not be able to qualify for refinance because of the foreclosure on the record.
The bottom line is to do your research on the company you are sending information to before you hit the send button. Look into their companies history on the Better Business Bureau and try to ascertain what their intent is. If they list affiliates on their website they are definitely trying to sell your lead to the highest bidder. Please review the companies we have listed in our Company Resource Center. We have tried to separate those companies are merely seeking leads and those actually trying to help.
